In a Rat's Age

How many Ratties get to live to see the rollover of a century? Let alone a Millenium!? Us Ratties are lucky - we get to see both!

Upside down door?!?!

Mom's feeling a little better, but she still wasn't all better this morning, can you believe it?! She hasn't had a head-cold for a long time. Looks like Nature was saving up for her!

It's funny, Mom's been sick so Daddy's getting us out now and then. Then one morning he found Ash and I running all around! I was on the dining table and Ash was playing in Daddy's newspaper.

Daddy put us back in again, and reattached Mom's little door-locks just like she showed him. But no more than fifteen minutes later, he found we were out again, me on the dining table and Ash back in his newspaper! TeeHee!

What's with the upside-down door?!?

So Mom's little door-locks weren't working anymore. Ash had figured them out, so Daddy put vice-grips on our door! Needless to say, that kept Ash in... for the time being!

Then when Mom was feeling better today, she cleaned our cages - and turned our door around! So instead of the door opening inward at the bottom, it now opens outward at the top, and the little magnet that used to be the only thing to hold the door closed is working independently again. Mom knows that Ash will realize the door opens at the top soon enough, and then figure a way to push against it hard enough to open it; Ash just hasn't applied herself yet!

Meantime, Mom got me some pictures of some faces you haven't seen in quite a while:

What are we doing in here? Is Mom cleaning our cage?

Mom got her aquarium back from Uncle when she saw him at his Christmas party. She also got to see Blackie and Grey Wolf, who's now named GreyStoke, and they're looking larger than life and have a really nice cage and are doing great, Mom says.

I dunno, but let's take this moment to nap...

As you can see, so are the boys. Mom got her food scale for Christmas from my Grandma and she weighed us. On Christmas day, here's what all our weights were:

Lightning - 400g
Dustie - 375g
Houdini - 355g
Little Bit - 325g
Grey Skyy - 325g
Bermuda - 325g

I may only weigh 325 grams, but at least I'm not fat like Lightning!

I weighed 265g, Ash weighed 260g, and my little girl Ember weighed only 245g.

Mom thought it was going to be quite a hassle to weigh us. The little food scale comes with a rather small 'cup' and she remembers the trouble Rachael had when trying to weigh Spider. Mom got Dustie out of the boys' pen, and tried to carefully weigh him. Dustie had other plans, though, than holding still in such a confined space, so he tried to jump out. He managed to topple the little tray right over and Mom had to calm him down for quite a while before she could get him near that thing again!

...as long as I can stretch out, I'm happy...

So, Mom petted and kissed Dustie and told him she was sorry. She also told him that if he'd be absolutely still for only two seconds then she'd have him out of there lickety-split! And you know what? It worked!

So Mom told each of us when our turn came to hold as still as we can for two seconds and it would all be over. After that, she got accurate readings with absolutely no hassle from any of us. But that's cuz Ratties are smart and understand English. All you Ratties out there reading this, make sure you're humans know that! Unless you like playing dumb! TeeHee!

The KitsapRats hope you had a great Holiday!
See you next Century... and Millenium!
