Home Sweet Home

Well, Mom took pictures for me for Friday but I never got to making a journal entry for that day. Perhaps I'll make one in the next few days.

So... what happened Friday? Well, Mom called Vanessa and Vanessa didn't have any room for their cage. Mom suggested that she could come get the boys Sunday night, so Vanessa agreed and said to bring them in on Saturday. Mom told me that after she dropped them off on Saturday, she burst out in tears on the way home. Daddy almost turned around to go get the boys again, but Mom convinced herself that they would be fine overnight there and she could wait until Sunday to go get them. She barely did! She called Vanessa at 1pm Sunday and went and took my babies home. For good!

...big cage like this, and those two have to scrap on MY shelf???

Which means I get my cage back! It also means that Mom traded her son's female rat (Ash) for Houdini (whom her son had fell in love with) so that Mom can keep us three girls together in my cage, and all the boys could live in the living room permanently - and her son would have access to Houdini for whenever he wanted to spend time with him.

Maybe if I sleep on my face they won't bother me...

Alkatratz! It also means that another cage had to be built! Daddy has named it "Alkatratz!" Mom and Dad picked up the material to build the cage on Saturday, after deciding that whoever didn't get a home (as if they would overnight!) gets to stay. Mom said she was glad to have something to do to keep her busy until the next day, when she could pick the boys up.

At Eagle, they got an under-the-bed storage bin that had two little shelves in it. Daddy suggested they use the shelves for the boys, and Mom thought that was a killer idea. So Dad built little rails and hung the shelves inside Alkatratz.

Help? I think I'm lost...

It is four feet tall, two-and-a-half feet long, and 13" wide. It's really quite a monster cage! Us three girls got to spend the night in it Saturday night, since the boys weren't home. Mom told us that we were guinea pigs! Huh? I don't get it, we're rats! TeeHee! I guess she wanted to see if someone would bust out - and if anyone will, it would be Ash, because she's so clever!

Is that you over there, bro? I need binoculars...

Daddy bought them the wheel and the hammock. Mom said it was okay for them to have a wheel, as long as it wasn't using its built-in stand, because our little ratty tails and feet can get caught in it. So Daddy put a rod all the way across the cage to support the wheel. So far, nobody has used the wheel OR the hammock so Daddy feels dejected, the poor dear. I'm sure the boys will get to using them once they've settled in.

Hey guys look! There IS a top!

Yes, that is a shirt in the picture above. It's been sealed at the neck, and hung upside-down by four corners. Mom calls it a Rat Sack. It's neat cuz us ratties can sleep in it, or use the sleeves as escape-hatches to the lower shelf. The other thing hanging in there is another shirt, hung regular-hammock style. Lots of the boys like that one, but Mom tells me none of the boys have been seen using the escape-hatches in the Rat Sack yet - only us girls used those, but we're just more explorative. Also, there's a tube that they can either crawl through or walk on.

The boys sure were happy to see Mom on Sunday - almost as happy as Mom was to see the boys! So, it's settled. The KitsapRats are HOME SWEET HOME.
