Out-Time
Ember makes a very nice pillow. I suspect that she figures I make a pretty warm blanket, also. Mom has been trying to devise ways of getting the boys to hold still during their photo-shoot. Today, she got us girls out for our Out-Time first, which really threw the boys off - they could see us playing on their couch and couldn't join in the fun!
They frantically ran about the cage for at least a half hour, trying to remind Mom that they hadn't had their Out-Time yet (us girls always get our Out-Time after the boys are in bed!)
So the boys were plenty surprised when Mom opened their cage door and then just walked away - they didn't know what to think! But - while the boys were in this confused state, Daddy got some really cute pictures! TeeHee!
One of the boys initiates the gathering at the door, then calls a brother over for his opinion. After a while, a couple more will come over and help investigate the situation. Usually, see, Mom calls them and stands near the door, so they feel it's safe to come out. When Mom isn't around, the whole situation changes, and they grow suddenly timid!
I got to watch the whole thing because Mom hadn't put us away yet - in fact, the boys usually go to bed before us girls do. Mom felt kind of bad for the little trick she pulled on them, but they got extra Out-Time since us girls had already had ours - and the boys had definitely worked for it!
In other news, on Sunday Mom called PetsMart and asked how much they sold their rats for, and if they had any. They sell them for $6.99 but didn't have any. Mom told them that she had eight sweet little 7-week-old baby males that need to go to loving homes, and the employee said that they're not allowed to take in other people's animals. "Sorry." What a surprise! Especially when they didn't have any rats to sell at all!
Then Mom got angry and called Petco. She told me that she didn't want to because she was afraid the boys would be sold for snake food, but the guy said to bring them down. So Mom mustered up as much courage as she could, and took the boys on a little field trip! Mom told me she was nervous the whole time. The rat-lady there said she had no room, but to call on Tuesday. Mom talked to her quite a bit and told her that they could stay in their cage there if need be, that way the lady wouldn't mix up my boys from the unfriendly ones that they already have, and when someone comes in for a pet, she can show them to my boys. Mom was relieved that the rat-lady seemed just as concerned about my boys getting the right homes. Mom said they had a gazillion rats there, though - but when she called, the guy that answered made it sound like they didn't have any at all!
Mom has said that if she has to, she will buy a bigger bin and just keep the boys. She saw a bin that would be big enough at Eagle Hardware that was only $13 dollars, and the wiring she made my nice cage out of is inexpensive. She's more worried if she will have time for eight boys and the two of us more than anything. At least my girl Ember's fate is sealed. She stays, no matter what. |
