Feedin' Time!
Mom cleaned the house all day today so she was pretty tired by the time our feeding time arrived. She told me that since the boys hold still while they eat and generally ignore her, she could get pictures really quick! So today's photo session is of us eating!
Today Mom also did a little harvesting in the garden... she pulled up all her carrots. They taste as sweet as candy! I like carrots, but some of the babes don't - including Ember. Actually, Ember should eat them if what Mom says about them helping eyesight is true! But like they say, you can give a rat a carrot but you can't make her eat!
Mom started giving the boys two foodbowls when I was still living with them. It wasn't long ago that I saw her give them three food bowls. She did that for about a week, but she said there always seemed to be too much leftover food, so she decided to just give them their two bowls, filled plenty full.
Mom breaks up dog biscuits and puts a few chunks on top of all our food bowls. I usually stockpile mine in my box, but the boys will sit and eat, then scamper back to see if there are any left. The next thing the boys like to go after is sunflower seeds, like in the picture above! When the sunflower seeds are all gone, the scurrying stops and they slowly nibble at whats left. After that, we usually get some sort of fresh vegetable.
It may sound like our diet consists of a lot of fattening stuff, it really doesn't - Mom has been keeping close tabs on us and our weight. She called me "skinny rat" again last night - Oh how I love having my regular little ratty-figure back!!! Oh - I keep forgetting to tell you that Mom has nick-named the one rat she hadn't nick-named yet. She calls him Grey Sky after his storm-cloud pattern on his belly. Another thing that Mom told me was that the boys were having their out-time last night, and Mom was on the couch supervising them (she says they don't get into as much mischief as my daughter Ember, but she stays with them just the same). She said she got up to get something, and she didn't realize she had a passenger - Dustie! And Dustie fell a little ways onto the carpet! Mom said she panicked, because he could have gone right underneath the couch! But Mom yelled "Dustie!" from above him, and Dustie looked up, jumped the 3-inch gap between the floor and the couch, and hurriedly climbed up onto the couch again, basically following Mom's voice! What a good little ratty boy!!! Well, it's Friday, and I am going to give Mom the weekend off, as usual. So I hope to see you again on Monday! Ta ta for now! |
