PREMISE:
A commonly-asked question in the Dark and Shattered Lands is
"What is the best race/class combination?" These pages attempt to provide
one theory of answering that question based on statistics alone.
EXPLANATION:
Statistics.
Every race in Algoron has its own unique set of strengths and
weaknesses. Ogres are tremendously strong, but slow-witted. Dwarves are wise,
but clumsy. Each of these physical traits carries a number known as a 'statistic'.
You can see the statistics for each race by clicking on the race
statistics page.
Primary and Secondary Attribute Modifiers.
For every profession in Algoron, there are two key statistics that
best-influence one's success in that profession. These two key statistics are known
as 'primary' and 'secondary' attributes. When a class is
chosen, primary and secondary attributes modify the statistics of a character by further
boosting their stats. Thus, a warrior's primary and secondary statistics are
Strength and Constitution. Any creature that chooses to become a warrior will
receive a large 'boost' to its primary statistic and a smaller boost to its secondary
statistic.
Other Modifiers.
For most races, there is a +8 primary attribute modifier
and a +4 secondary attribute modifiers. Yinn get a +12 +6 modifier. Humans get a +10
+6 modifier. Males also receive a +2 strength modifier. Females receive
a +2 wisdom modifier.
